A 16-year-old Volusia County, Florida girl recently faked her own kidnapping to avoid getting in trouble for breaking her curfew. Nine law enforcement departments in Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties searched for the teen as she and her friends drove on Interstate 4 calling out landmarks to a 911 operator. When officers stopped her SUV they realized she was lying. The Orlando police want to charge the girl with filing a false police report. They also want a judge to order the teen to pay for the cost of the investigation.
An Austrian high school is allowing students to use 'lifelines' during exams. Teacher Reinhard Peter came up with the 'phone-a-friend' idea after watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire. He says the new allowance should help boost test scores. "Students can call doctors, teachers and other people to ask their help. The 'experts' are often more nervous about the exams than the students. Many of them suddenly have exam anxiety as though they were sitting in the classroom taking the exam. They get nervous on the phone and feel that if they give the wrong answer they are not only failing themselves but the pupil who is calling them as well."
